Access to information is a term that can often sound very abstract.
But if you dig a little deeper, you will see that this foundational
human right can in fact have very tangible effects on people's everyday
lives.
This IFEX podcast is part one of a three part audio series that
looks at the critical issue of access to information in Africa. Stay
tuned for parts two and three, which will be released on 18 March and 25
March, respectively.
In this episode, we speak with Rikke Hansen, a program officer at the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), about her project to promote access to information about Ebola in Ghana.
Hansen tells us about the challenges that many journalists in Ghana
encountered when attempting to access information about the deadly
virus, and what the MFWA is doing to help ensure that life-saving
information reaches people all around the country.
